Questions, answered straight

Concrete flatwork FAQ

The things people ask before they pour. If yours isn’t here, call and we’ll answer it honestly — even when the answer is “you don’t need us yet.”

How much does a new concrete driveway cost from San Antonio to Austin?+
Most residential driveways along the I-35 corridor run about $10–$18 per square foot installed, depending on thickness, base prep, reinforcement and finish. Decorative and heavier commercial slabs cost more. Build a line-item range in our instant estimator, then we confirm it with a free on-site measure.
How thick should a concrete driveway, patio or slab be?+
Patios and walkways are typically 4 inches, residential driveways 5 inches, and commercial or heavy-vehicle and RV slabs 6 to 8 inches with heavier rebar. The right thickness depends on the load and your soil, so we size it from the measurements rather than a guess.
How long before I can walk or drive on new concrete?+
You can usually walk on new flatwork after 24 to 48 hours and drive a passenger vehicle after about 7 days. Concrete keeps gaining strength for 28 days, so we recommend waiting longer for heavy vehicles. We give you exact times for your pour and the weather.
Will my new concrete crack?+
All concrete can develop hairline cracks as it cures and the ground moves. We can’t promise crack-free concrete — nobody honest can — but the right thickness, a compacted base, reinforcement and a proper control-joint layout control where it cracks and keep it cosmetic rather than structural.
Do I need a permit for concrete flatwork in Texas?+
It depends on the work and the city. Many private patios and slabs need no permit, while driveway approaches in the public right-of-way, ADA work and commercial slabs usually do. We handle permitting where it’s required as part of the job.
Which cities along the I-35 corridor do you serve?+
We pour the entire corridor and both sides of it: San Antonio, Schertz, New Braunfels, Seguin, San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Austin, Round Rock and Georgetown, plus Boerne, Wimberley, Dripping Springs, Bastrop and more. From south San Antonio to north of Georgetown, a free measure is routine.
